Cylinder Surface Area with Top AND Bottom,

h being the length of height
r the radius

You have and you are asked for r.

.
The surface area of the cylinder is

    SA =  + .

So, our equation is

     +  =   square feet,   or

    r + r^2 = 2,

    r^2 + r - 2 = 0

    (r-1)*(r+2) = 0.

Only positive root r= 1 makes sense.

ANSWER. The radius of the cylindrical container is 1 ft.
