Question 1121987: The length of one base of a trapezoid is 19 less than five times the other base. If the trapezoid has a height of 18 feet and an area of 477 ft, find the length of the longer base.
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A=(1/2)*h*sum of the two parallel sides or bases. smaller base is x, larger is 5x-19.
477=(1/2)*18(6x-19)
954=108x-342
108=1296
x=12 ft, shorter base and larger base is 41 feet
the sum is 53 feet, and product of that and 9 ft is 477 ft^2
41 feet ANSWER.
