Question 1099785: Rachel is trying to build a triangular pen for her dog. The back of the yard already has 25 feet and 40 feet of
fencing that forms a right angle. She has 120 feet of fence left and would like to connect it from both ends of the fence to form a right triangle. Will Rachel have enough fence to enclose the pen? Explain your answer.

she has more than enough.

the existing fence forms the legs of a right triangle.

the hypotenuse of this right triangle is equal to square root of (25^2 + 40^2).

that makes it equal to 47.17 feet.

she has 120 feet of fence.

she'll be able to form the triangular pen and still have at least 70 feet of fence left over.
