An 8" x 10" photo is to be bordered with a mat of uniform width x.
Select the equation that will determine the width of the mat if the dimensions of the finished product have a width-to-height ratio of 9 to 10.
:
The overall dimensions which includes the mat: (2x+8) by (2x+10)
therefore
=
Cross multiply
10(2x+8) = 9(2x+10)
20x + 80 = 18x + 90
20x - 18x = 90 - 80
2x = 10
x = 10/2
x = 5" is the width of the mat
