Question 1031089: Manny wishes to determine the height of a flag pole. He takes a sighting of the top of the flag pole from point P with an angle of 53 degrees. He then moves futher away 20 meters from the flagpole and take an other sighting with an angle of 28 degrees. How high is the flagpole?
Answer by josgarithmetic(39617)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A drawing will be helpful if not needed.
Vertical segment, P on top, G on the bottom.
Horizontal ray (pointing to the right, as I do separately on paper) containing A, and further to the right, B.
The segment GP is a variable, may be called y.
Segment GA can be called length x.
Segment AB is your 20.
Angle GAP is 53 degrees and angle GBP is 28 degrees.

Goal is to solve for y.

Some relationships to be found:
--------these seem to be enough to solve the problem.

(1) Does this discussion make sense for you?

(2) Do you understand and can accept the system of equations?

(3) All needed to be done is solve the system for x and y.
