Question 1029646: The height of a painting is twice its width x.you want a 3inch wide wooden frame for the painting. The area of the frame alone is 216 square inches what are the dimesions of the frame include a variable expression of the area of the frame alone
Answer by LinnW(1048) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Set W = the width of the painting.
2W = the length of the painting.
The area of the border of the painting is
the area of painting with the border minus
the area of the painting itself.
(2W + 6)(W + 6) - (2W)(W) = 216
add -36 to each side
divide each side by 18
Since the length = 2W, length = 20
So the painting length is 20 and the width is 10.
