The farmer wants to put a fence around the field.
How many metres of fencing will the farmer need?
:
We can find the length of the sides using Pythagoras a^2 + b^2 = c^2
the diagonal is the hypotenuse
a & b are the same so we can write it:
2a^2 = 120^2
2a^2 = 14400
divide both sides by 2
a^2 = 7200
a =
a = 84.853 meters on each side
the amt of fencing is equal to the perimeter of the square
4(84.583) = 339.4 ~ 340 meters of fencing required
