let x=number of dimes
2x+1=number of nickels
44-(x+2x+1=44-3x-1=43-3x=number of quarters
.10x+.05(3x+1)+.25(43-3x)=4.20
.05+10.80-.55x=4.20
.55x=6.60
X=12
number of dimes=12
number of nickels=25
number of quarters=7
