Question 989704: A landscaping company needs 160gallons of 23% fertilizer to fertilize the shrubs in an office park. They have in stock 30% fertilizer and 20% fertilizer. How much of each type should they mix together?
Answer by josgarithmetic(39618)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x, volume of the 20%
160-x, volume of the 30%

Mainly you want to be able to form that equation, or if you chose two separate variables, you might get two related equations.

Finding x is arithmetic already learned ( maybe imperfectly mastered, but already studied).
