A total of $5000 was invested, part of it at 4% per year and the remainder at 6% per year. If the total yearly interest amounted to $270, how much was invested at each rate?
let x=amt invested at 4%
5000-x=amt invested at 6%

.04x+.06(5000-x)=270
.04x+300-.06x=270
.02x=30
x=1500
5000-x=3500
amt invested $1500
5000-x=amt invested at 6%=$3500
