Question 972027: The sum of three times a number and twice another number is 120. Twice the first number plus four times the other number is 65. Calculate the values of the two numbers.
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
number is x; other number is y
3x +2y=120
2x +4y=65
Multiply top by (-2)
-6x -4y =-240
2x +4y =65 Add them
-4x =-175
x=43.75
2x+4y=87.5 +4y+65
4y= -22.5
y= -5.625
3(43.75) + 2(-5.625)= 131.25 - 11.25=120
2(43.75) +4 (-5.625) =87.5-22.5 =65
(43.75, -5.625)
