Since the ratio is 3 to 7 you can think of 3 parts to 7 parts
3 parts to 7 parts out of 10 parts ( to get the out of number just add 3 and 7 )
3/10 of $120,000 is Mr Daniels part or 3/10 * 120000 = 36000
7/10 of $120,00 is Mr Griffins part or 7/10 * 120000 = 84000
If the problem had a ratio of 3 to 8, the result would have been
3/11 of $120,000 is Mr Daniels part or 3/11 * 120000 = 32727.27
8/11 of $120,00 is Mr Griffins part or 8/11 * 120000 = 87272.72
