Answer by macston(5194) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
H=cost of hamburger; F=cost of fries=H-$1
H+F=$2.98 Substitute for F
H+(H-$1)=$2.98 Add $1 to each side.
2H=$3.98 Divide each side by 2.
H=$1.99 ANSWER 1: A hamburger costs $1.99.
F=H-$1=$1.99-$1=$0.99 ANSWER 2 Fries cost $0.99.
CHECK:
H+F=$2.98
$1.99+$0.99=$2.98
$2.98=$2.98
