We cannot mix years with months. Since the question refers to how much she wants to make this month, let's take "annual salary" and turn it into months -you know, apples with apples-.
48000/12= 4000. She makes 4000 x month.
In addition, she makes 4% commission on all sales, 4% means she makes 4 for every 100. We want to know how much she makes for every dollar sold. Thus, 4/100 = 0.04. And we'll call her sales "s".
So she makes per month: 0.04s + 4,000 And we want this to equal 6,000. Here we go:
0.04s + 4,000 = 6000 Subtract 4,000, both sides:
0.04s = 2000 Now divide both sides by 0.04, and your answer is:
Answer: s = 50,000 She has to sell 50,000 this month in order to make a total of $6,000.

With annual salary alone, Tamara makes ($48000/yr)(1 yr/12 mos)=$4000 /month
The difference $6000-$4000=$2000 to be made up in commission.
At a commission rate of 4%, Tamara must make $2000/0.04=$50000 in sales to earn $2000 in commission.
ANSWER: Tamara must make $50,000 in sales to have a monthly income of $6000.
