Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A train running between City A and City B arrives at its destination 10minutes late when it goes at 40kms.per hour.
And 16 minutes late when it goes at 30kms. per hour.
What is the distance between two cities?
:
We can say that the travel time at 40 km/hr is is 6 min faster than at 30 km/hr.
Convert 6 min to hrs; 6/60 = .1 hrs
:
let d = the distance between the cities
write a time equation; time = dist/speed
- = .1
multiply equation by 120 and cancel the denominators
4d - 3d = 120*.1
d = 12 km
