5 * .023 * 450,000 = 51750
5 * .012 * 450,000 = 27000

NCR gained 51,750 employees and lost 27,000 employees for a net gain of 51,750 - 27,000 = 24,750 employees.

add 450,000 to 24,750 and you get 474,750 employees.
