Question 872613: "Kate invests $48000, part at 9% and the rest at 7%. The annual return on the investments is actually the same. How much did she invest at each rate?"
I am confused as how to solve the problem without the amount of return she received. I tried putting it in this equation: .09x+.07(48000-x)=???
But I know that's not right. .07x=.09x since the return is the same but I don't know how to put that in an equation to solve? Thank you so much!

"Kate invests $48000, part at 9% and the rest at 7%. The annual return on the investments is actually the same. How much did she invest at each rate?"
.
Let x = amount invested at 9%
then
48000-x = amount invested at 7%
.
.09x = .07(48000-x)
.09x = 3360-.07x
.16x = 3360
x = 3360/.16
x = $21000 (amount invested at 9%)
.
amount invested at 7%:
48000-21000= $27000
