Let x pounds of coffee beans that cost $2.60 per pound be mixed with 4 pounds of coffee beans that cost $1.80 per pound.
Then we get (4+x) pounds of coffee that cost $2.28 per pound.
The equation is:
2.60x + 4*1.80 = (4+x)*2.28
==> 2.6x + 7.2 = 9.12 + 2.28x
==> 2.6x - 2.28x = 9.12 - 7.2
==> 0.32x = 1.92
==> x = 1.92/0.32
==> x = 6
So 6 pound of coffee beans that cost $2.60 per pound should be mixed with 4 pounds of coffee beans to get the desired mixture.
