Set x = amount each of original 4 pay per month
Four times amount of the equal payment
=
Five times new amount each person pays.
4x = 5(x-60)
4x = 5x - 300
add -5x to each side
-x = -300
multiply (-1) times each side
x = 300
The total rent is 4*300 = $1200
