Question 844119: Sepertate $90 into two parts so that the second part is $30 less than twice the first part.
Answer by algebrahouse.com(1659) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = first part
2x - 30 = second part {second part is 30 less than twice first}
x + 2x - 30 = 90 {the two parts add together to equal 90}
3x - 30 = 90 {combined like terms}
3x = 120 {added 30 to each side}
x = 40 {divided each side by 3}
2x - 30 = 50 {substituted 40, in for x, into 2x - 30}
40 and 50 are the two parts
