Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x= Number of advance tickets
y= Number of tickets at the door

1 x + 1 y = 140 .............1
Total value
8 x + 14 y = 1720 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by -14
Multiply (2) by 1
-14 x -14 y = -1960
8 x + 14 y = 1720
Add the two equations
-6 x = -240
/ -6
x = 40
plug value of x in (1)
1 x + 1 y = 140
40 + y = 140
y = 140 -40
y = 100
y = 100
x= 40 Number of advance tickets
y= 100 Number of tickets at the door
