Question 787796: I am struggling with setting up some problems. Can you help me?

First problem: You invested 7000 in two accounts paying 3% and 6% annual interest, respectfully. If the total interested earned for the year is $330, how much was invested at each rate?

This is how I set it up:
A+B=$7000
3A+6B=330

Then I tried to flip it and it didn't work either:
3A+6B=7000
A+B=330

The first set up was in the right direction, but 3A would be 300% on amount A and 6B would be 600% on amount B.

Use

as your second equation and try it again. Let me know how it works out.

By the way, if decimal fraction coefficients bother you, you can always multiply the whole thing by 100:

Either way works.
