Question 765616: can u tell me if sp =5445 after discount of 5% discount how to find the cp
Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
i'm presuming sp is the sale prce and cp is the cost price.
sp = 5445 after 5% discount.
sp = cp - .05 * cp
use the distributive law to make this equation equal to:
sp = cp * (1 - .05) which becomes:
sp = cp * .95
solve this equation for cp.
divide both equations by .95 to getr:
sp / .95 = cp
since sp = 5445, this equation becomes:
5445 / .95 = cp
solve for cp to get:
cp = 5445 / .95 = 5731.578947
working backwards to see if this is correct, you get:
sp = cp - .05 * cp which becomes:
5445 = 5731.578947 - .95 * 5731.578947 which becomes:
5445 = 5445, confirming the solution is correct.
