Question 697169: Travis bought two plots of land for a total of $120,000. On the 1st plot, he made a total profit of 15%. On the 2nd he lost 10%. his total profit was $5,500. How much did he pay for each piece of land?
Answer by god2012(113)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let 'x' be the cost of plot 1 and 'y' be the cost of plot 2.
x + y = 120000 ------------ eq.1
15x/100 - 10y/100 = 5500
or 15x-10y = 550000 ---------eq.2

Solving 1 and 2, we get,
x = $70000
y = $50000
