Question 696695: Parking in a student lot costs $2 for the first half hour and $1.25 for each hour thereafter. A partial hour is charged the same as a full hour. What is the longest time that a student can park in this lot for $10
Answer by Stitch(470)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The first half hour is $2.
$10 - 2$ = 8$
----------------
The remaining time:
$8 / $1.25 = 6.4
But you are charged for a full hour so you can only afford 6 additional hours
The longest amount of time taht a stundent can park there for $10 is 6.5 hours.
That is the initial half hour fee plus six additional hours.
