Question 675640: I need help with this question "Juan has a cellular phone that costs $12.95 per month plus 25 cents per minute for each call. Tiffany has a cellular phone that costs 14.95 per month plus 15 cents per minute for each call. For what number of minutes do both plans cost the same?" Thank you for your help.

y = .25x+12.95
where y is cost and x is minutes

Tiffany's Plan
y = .15x+14.95
where y is cost and x is minutes
...
Set the cost equal and find where x is the same for both.
.25x+12.95 = .15x+14.95
...
Group x variables to one side of the equation
.25x + 12.95 - 12.95 - .15x = .15x - .15x + 14.95 - 12.95
.25x - .15x = 14.95 - 12.95
.1x = 2
minutes
...
The plans are the same when 20 minutes are used.
