y = adult's plate
x + y = 335
3.40x + 7y = 1524.20
Multiply the first equation by 7 and subtract the second equation from it.
-7(x+y=335)
7x + 7y = 2345
7x - 3.4x + 7y - 7y = 2345 - 1524.20
3.6x = 820.8
3.6x/-3.6 = 820.8/3.6
x = 228 children's plates
x + y = 335 = 228 + y
335 - 228 = y
y = 107 adult's plates
