Let x= amount of skim milk to be added
We know that the amount of butterfat in the original liter (1)(.092) plus the amount of butterfat in the skim milk that was added (x)(.02) has to equal the amount of butterfat in the final mixture (1+x)(.064). So our equation to solve is:
(1)(.092)+.02x=(1+x)(.064) simplifying, we get:
.092+.02x=.064+.064x collecting like terms we have:
.02x-.064x=.064-.092 or
-.044x=-.028 and
x=0.64 liters
ck
(1)(.092)+(.02)(.64)=(1.64)(.064)
.092+.013=.105
.105=.105
