After spending money in the second store, Samantha had no money left. How much money did she have when she went into the first store?

Since she didn't have anything left after the last $20, and just before she spent that last $20 she spent half of what she had, that last $20 must have also been half of what she had when she walked into the second store. So, when she entered the second store she had $40. Then just before she spent the extra $20 at the first store she had $60, which was half of what she had at the start. $120.
