Question 546168: Please help me with this question. Our school does not provide books so this is all I got.
DeShawn's school is selling tickets to a choral performance. On the first day of tickets sales the school sold 4 Adult tickets and 11 child tickets for a total of $65. The school took in $142 on the second day by selling 14 adult tickets and 10 child tickets. Find the price of an adult ticket and the price of a child ticket.
So I figured:
4A + 11B = 65
and
14A + 10B = 142
Can you help me from here?
Thanks in advance.
Jenny

Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
good so far...

multiplying 1st eqn by -7 ___ -28A - 77B = -455

multiplying 2nd eqn by 2 ___ 28A + 20B = 284

add the two eqns to eliminate A; then solve for B and substitute back to find A

the choice of multipliers is based on the common factors of the coefficients of the eliminated terms
___ factors of 4, 2 and 2
___ factors of 14, 2 and 7
___ ignore the common factor 2's and use the 2 and 7; changing one sign to enable elimination
