Answer by checkley71(8403) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
224=X+(2X-1)+(2X-1)+11 OR 224=X+2X-1+2X-1+11 OR 224=5X+9 OR 5X=215 OR X=215/5
OR X=43 & 2*43-1=86-1 OR 85 & 2*43-1+11=86+10 OR 96
PROOF 43+85+96=224 OR 224=224

The sum of $224 was divided among 3 people so that the second person received $1 less than twice as much as the first, and the third person received $11 more than the second. How much did each person receive?
-------------------
Let amount recd. by 1st person be "x" dollars.
Then 2nd person received "2x-1" dollars.
And 3rd person received "2x+10" dollars.
EQUATION:
x+2x-1+2x+10=224 dollars
5x=215
x=$43 (1st person amount)
2x-1=$85 (2nd person amount)
2x+10=$96 (3rd person amount)
