Question 467015: Hello,
I have a question on a word problem.
A man invested his $25,000 inheritance between two stocks. One stock yeilds 5% interest while the other stock yeilds $4% interest. If his total income from the two stocks was $1140.00, find the amount invested at each rate?
Thank you

Answer by Earlsdon(6294)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = the amount invested at 5% per annum. Then, ($25,000-x) would be the remainder invested at 4% per annum.
The the sum of the incomes earned on these two amounts can be expressed as (after changing the percentages to their decimal equivalents):
Simplify and solve for x.

and...

$14,000 was invested @ 5% and $11,000 was invested @ 4%
