j = s + 50
s+35 = 2(j-35)
---
Substitute for "j" and solve for "s":
s+35 = 2(s+50-35)
---
s+35 = 2(s+15)
s+35 = 2s+30
s = 5 (Smith had Rs.5)

Solve for "j":
j = s + 50
j = 5+50 (John had Rs.55)
