Oh, this is a fun one! First, we know the amount paid was 220*R. Next, the amount earned was 290(R-1), since it was $290 for all but 1 of the R VCR's. Now, the profit=earned-spent, so putting the 2 amounts in gives 290R-290-220R=1250, so 70R=1540, so R=22. So 22 VCRs were bought, so 21 were sold.:)
