Question 35447: I tried and tried to figure this one out, with no success.
Becky Schwartz, a saleswoman, is offered two salery plans. Plan 1 is $400 per week salery plus a 2% commision of sales. Plan 2 is a $250 per week salery plus a 16% commision of sales. How much would becky need to make in sales for the salery to be the same on both plans?

Lext x be the amount in dollars obtained from sales
the amount earned from plan 1 is 400 + (2/100)*x
the amount earned from plan 2 is 250 + (16/100)*x
The problem is to find out the amount of sales required for both the plans to be equal
which means what is the value of x such that amount from plan1 equals to amount from plan2
400 + (2/100)*x = 250 + (16/100)*x
400 - 250 = (16/100 - 2/100)*x
150 = (14/100)*x
or
(14/100)*x = 150
x = (150 *100)/14 = (150*50)/7 = 7500/7
