4x+3y=7.75.............2

multiply equation 1 by 4 and equation 2 by 3 and subtract to eliminate x
12x+8y=21.96
12x+9y=23.25

8y-9y=21.96-23.25
-y=-1.29
y= $1.29 the price for peanut butter jar

plug the value of y in equation 1
