Question 283186: Ms. Jones invested $18,000 in two accounts. One account pays 6% simple interest and the other pays
8%. Her total interest for the year was $1,290. How much did she have in each account?

Answer by checkley77(12844)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.08x+.06(18,000-x)=1,290
.05x+1,080-,06x=1,290
.02x=1,290-1,080
.02x=210
x=210/.02
x=10,500 amount invested @ 8%.
18,000-10,500=7,500 amount invested @ 6%
Proof:
.08*10,500+.06*7,500=1,290
840+450=1,290
1,290=1,290
