a total of $20,000 is split between 2 people, one person receives $3000 less than the other, how much does each get?
let one get x
the other will get 20000-x
x+3000=20000-x
2x=20000-3000
2x=17000
x= 17000/2
x=8500.
the other gets 20000-8500=11500
