Question 270884: susan had $800 to invest last year. she invested some in a guaranteed 8% interest account. she put the rest in riskier account and ended up losing 4% on the investment. if by the end of the year she had made $28 as a result of both investments, how much did she invest in each account?
Answer by checkley77(12844) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.08x-.04(800-x)=28
.08x-32+.04x=28
.12x=28+32
.12x=60
x=60/.12
x=$500 invested @ 8%.
800-500=300 invested @ 4%.
Proof:
.08*500-.04*300=28
40-12=28
28=28
