Let's set it up so x will represent scott's money. Alice get 3/4(x) and Tricia gets 1/2(x). So the equation will be:
x+1/2(x)+3/4(x)=900,000 Combine like terms will result in:
2 1/4(x)=900,000 Let's convert the fraction so it's 2.25 and divide each side by it to give us:
x=400,000
There we go--Scot gets 400,000 dollars
Tricia gets 200,000
Alice gets 300,000
This should all add up to the total. Right?
