Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
gary's total sales were $192,500.

he gets 5% on the first $50,000.

he gets 5.5% on the next $25,000.

he gets 6% on the rest.

the rest is $192,500 - $75,000 = $117,500

5% of $50,000 = .05 * $50,000 = $2,500.

5.5% of $25,000 = .055 * $25,000 = $1,375.

6% of $117,500 = .06 * $117,500 = $7,050.

Gary's total commission is equal to $2,500 + $1,375 + $7,050 = $10,925.

$50,000 + $25,000 + $117,500 = $192,500.
