Question 19321: I just can not figure out how to set this one up.....and I need the answer quick. Please Help Me!!!!!
Ed and Dave are going to divide a cash prize of $14,000 in a ratio of 2 to 5. How much will Dave receive?

Answer by Earlsdon(6294)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You can use proportions for this problem. Let $x = the amount that Ed receives, then Dave will get $(14,000-x)
Cross-multiply.

Add 2x to both sides.
Divide both sides by 7.

So, Ed receives $4,000.00 while Dave will get ($14,000.00 - $4,000.00) $10,000.00
