Question 188476: A manufacturer finds that the revenue generated by selling x units of a certain commodity is given by the function R(x)= 240-0.4x^2 , where the revenue R(X) is measured in dollars. What is the maximum revenue? And how many units should be manufactured to obtain this maximum?
Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Your revenue function doesn't make any sense. Without an x term, the axis of symmetry of your graph is the y-axis, hence the vertex, and therefore the maximum revenue, is when you sell zero units -- an absurd result indeed.
Now if your function is actually:
that is a different story.
Maximum revenue is achieved by selling:
units
Revenue achieved at 300 units is:
You can do the arithmetic.
