Let the money withdrawn from the bank is 'x'.
money spend for gasoline = half of the money = 1/2 x
money spend for lunch = $ 6.55
Balance money with him = $ 13.45
money withdrawn, x = 1/2 x +6.55 + 13.45
= 1/2 x + 20.00
i.e. x -1/2x = 20 (combining like terms)
1/2 x = 20
1/2 * 2 x = 20 * 2
x = 40 .
amount withdrawn from bank = $40.00
