A taxi charges $3.25 for the first mile, and then $3.00 for each mile after that. If the total charge is $13.75, then how far is the taxi ride? Write an equation representing this question. JUSTIFY AND SOLVE THE EQUATION.
------------
Let the number of miles traveled be "x":
EQUATION:
c(x) = 3.25 + (x-1)3
13.75 = 3.25 + 3x -3
13.50 = 3x
x = 4.5 miles
