Question 1202494: Good ones were $7 each and sorry ones were only $3 each. If Fiona spent $414 and bought 2 more good ones than sorry ones, how many of each did she buy?
Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x is the number of sorry ones.
x + 2 is the number of good ones.
7 * (x + 2) + 3 * x = 414
simplify t get 7x + 14 + 3x = 414
combine like terms to get 10x + 14 = 414
subtract 14 from both sides of the equation to get 10x = 400
solve for x to get x = 40
comfirn by replacing x in the original euqtion to get 7 * 42 + 3 * 40 = 414
simplify to get 294 + 120 = 414
combine like terms to get 414 = 414, confirming the value of x is correct.
your solution is she bought 42 good ones and 40 sorry ones.
