regular price, $8
senior's price, $6
x, how many regular
y, how many senior

Or simplifying,

Answer by Octo-pie7(11)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Step 1:
Price of ticket = $8 each.
Price of ticket after discount = 8 - 2 = $6
Total Price = $3580
Total Ticket = 525

Step 2:
Now, we have given
x represent the number of ticket sold at $8.
y the number of ticket sold at discount price.
Then, x + y = 525
8x + 6y = 3580
Therefore,
System of equation is
x + y = 525
8x + 6y = 3580

As usual he's WRONG! His equations ARE! They're NOT 4x + y = 1,790 and x + y = 52, so:
Will this person EVER stop making all these mistakes? I wonder!!

As x were sold at $8, and y were sold at discounted price of $6, we get:
8x + 6y = 3,580, which when reduced, becomes: 4x + 3y = 1,790 ----- eq (i)
As 525 tickets were sold, we also get: x + y = 525 ------ eq (ii)

.

Regarding such problems,  writing system of equations   TRADITIONALLY  is considered

as trivial step and/or  SELF-EVIDENT  action.

The best applicable and accompanying  mathematical  mantra  is to repeat these words every time

" write equations as you read the problem ".

     x + y = 525,

    8x + 6y = 3580.
