Question 117995: Pens and pencils. A bookstore manager plans to spend $60 on pens at 30 cents each, an penicils at 10 cents each. The equation 0.10x + 0.30y= 60 can be used to model this situation.
A) what do x and Y represent? ---> I said x represent the cost of pencils, and y represent the cost of pens
b) Graph the equation
c) write the equation in slope-intercept form ---> 30y=0.10x+60
d)What is the slope of the line? ---> 0.10x (pencils)
e) What does the slope tell you? ---> how many pencils were sold at 0.10 (I think)

YOU NEED TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM A LITTLE CLOSER. x AND y DOES NOT REPRESENT THE COST OF PENCILS AND PENS. WE ARE TOLD THAT 10 CENTS AND 30 CENTS REPRESENTS THE COST OF PENCILS AND PENS. 0.10x REPRESENTS THE COST OF ALL PENCILS BOUGHT AND 0.30y REPRESENTS THE COST OF ALL PENS BOUGHT.
ALSO (c), THE SLOPE-INTERCEPT FORM IS NOT CORRECT AND THEREFORE (d) IS NOT CORRECT:
y=mx+b where m is slope and b is the y-intercept is the standard form
