employee makes 488 a week.

plus a commission of 1.1% on sales above 15,000 through 25,000.

plus a commission of 1.4% on sales above 25,000.

the salesman sells $29,000 worth of merchandise.

subtract 25,000 from that to get 4,000.

give him 1.4% of that for a total of .014 * 4,000 = 56

also give him 1.1% of 10,000 = .011 * 10,000 = 110.

his total commission is 110 + 56 = 166.

his salary plus commission for the week is 488 + 166 = 654.

the logic is as follows:

ask if he sold over 25,000 worth of merchandise?

if the answer is yes, then give him his salary plus 1.4% of the amount over 25,000 plus 1.1% of 10,000.

if the answer is no, then ask if he sold over 15,000 worth of merchandise?

if the answer is yes, then give him his salary plus 1.1% of the amount over 15,000.

if the answer is no then give him his salary only without any commission.
