6x + 6*(x+25) = 450


is the distance equation for this problem


6x + 6x + 150 = 450


12x = 450-150 = 300   ====>  x =  = 25 mph is the speed of the commuter train.


Then the speed of the express train is 25 + 25 = 50 mph.
